Beat movement leaders of the 1950s such as Jack Kerouac, Ed Sanders, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Anne Waldman, Allen Ginsberg and others made a major impact on society. Director Francis Ford Coppola is planning a film version of 'On the Road.' A museum exhibition is also discussed.

Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" is still an very popular book even 30 years after his death. It was the bible for a cult of Beats seeking vagabond freedom. It has become a rite of passage into a mythic tribe to read the novel. Thieves are attracted to his books.
