One trip, three canyons

Troop 1254 of Cooperstown, NY, spent ten days in April 1997 hiking through the national parks comprising Zion, Bryce Canyon and the Grand Canyon. Preparation for the trip required two years of fundraising and planning by the troop.

Boy Scout Troop 462 went fishing for steelhead on the Cowlitz River in southwest Washington. The troop hired fishing guides to help them find a good place to fish. Each scout in the troop caught a fish, which they ate for dinner.

Boys Scouts can develop fishing techniques at their meetings by studying fish identification, fisherman knots, tackle care and fishing regulations. A good fisherman is one who knows conservation methods and fishing etiquette.
