Quicker fetal testing
Article Abstract:
Technological advances in prenatal tests have resulted in two new methods of testing fetal cells quickly and safely. A simple method known as FISH counts fetal chromosomes in amniocentesis with results available within 48 hours. A device that uses a laser beam and detects fetal red-blood cells in a mother's blood may be available in the future.

Quicker fetal testing
Article Abstract:
New techniques simplify prenatal testing procedures for abnormalities. FISH makes chromosome counting in amniocentesis easier by tagging fetal cells with flourescent markers. Scientists are also studying laser beam use in cell analysis without entering the womb by detecting cells in the mother's blood.

Fetal therapy
Article Abstract:
Percutaneous umbilical blood sampling is a method of sampling fetal blood by inserting a needle through the mother's abdomen and into the umbilical cord. This technique, combined with in-utero drug therapy, can increase the chances of babies being born healthy.
