Women in the military services have not been given their due recognition. They have been treated as second-class citizens in the armed forces. Bias against women has been evident in pregnancy issues where a woman who gets pregnant is discharged while the man's career is not affected.

The Dept. of Veteran Affairs has began to modify its hospitals to accomodate the growing number of women in the military. The hospitals are now equipped with facilities and services that address the needs of women.
