Europe is hardly remembered for his important musical contributions and gallantry in World War I. Yet his work helped develop a new musical form called jazz, and helped continue its upbeat evolution. A trained musician, Europe was to bridge ragtime and jazz prior to the Jazz Age.

US Army veteran Sgt Alvin York is best remembered as a good sergeant who helped improve the lives of the residents of his hometown of Pall Mall, TN. York dedicated his post-war life in community service, particularly in providing better schools and highways in Tennessee.

Dove's shooting wins feather in her cap

Seventeen-year-old Kelly Dove from Comer, GA won the top honors in The American Legion Junior Three-Position Air Rifle National Championship held in August 1998. Dove has established a standing record of 777, only three points less than the possible 800 points.
