Too many eyes on the prize: the Nobel Prizes mean glory for a very select few scientists. That's the problem

Research science has grown dramatically since 1901, when the Nobel Foundation was established to award prizes to scientists for groundbreaking research. The prizes themselves, because of the legitimacy and prestige they confer, influence the direction of research, a development not altogether for the good according to some observers.
