Duncan McNaughton and Bob Van Osdel were rival high-jumping athletes who were able to develop a profound friendship. At the 1932 Olympics, Van Osdel gave his buddy some last-minute advice, which proved to be crucial to McNaughton's winning the gold for high jumping.
