Winter brings quiet and solitude to Michigan's southwest shores which make it an ideal opportunity to explore resort towns and artists' galleries. Recommended spots such as New Buffalo, South Haven and Saugatuck give visitors an idea of gingerbread villages covered with snow.

There are more than 25 ski resorts in the northern area of Michigan, including Indianhead Mountain Resort in Wakefield. Several downhill resorts haved outstanding Nordic trail systems, and some of the most extensive trail networks for snowmobiles are found in Michigan.
