Own goal for Turkey?
Article Abstract:
Turkey hopes the capture of Kurdish terrorist leader Abdullah Ocalan in Feb, 1999, will cause the nation's Kurds, who make up 20% of the population, to end their campaign for independence. Most Kurds are dismayed by the capture, but probably feel they have nothing to lose by continuing the struggle. Since 1992 Turkish forces have destroyed over 3000 Kurdish villages, rendering almost 3 million Kurds homeless.
