Men, women...and the rest
Article Abstract:
Honore de Balzac was a great writer of 19th century France who tackled issues that are topical in 1999. These include environmental concerns, and the reluctance of women to carry out the duties of a wife. His style also appears more postmodern than many postmodernists of the 1990s. He wrote 88 books and had planned to write 137. He created over 2,400 characters, and some 570 of these appear in several books. He based female characters on women around him, including his mother, who did not believe that he could be successful in life.
