Campaign finance unreform
Article Abstract:
Darrell Steinberg, Assemblyman, blames the Supreme Court for the failure of campaign finance laws to reduce campaign spending and the corrosive influence of money. The Supreme Court did rule in 1976 that no campaign finance law could prevent candidates from exercising their speech rights to spend their own resources expressing their message.

Gladiator contests pull no punches
Article Abstract:
Mixed martial art that is the hand-to-hand fighting in a ring cage is illegal in California but is soon found to occur in Indian gaming casinos. Indian gaming casinos occur on tribal lands where there is little law restriction. Story of the contest held in Colusa casino in Northern California is discussed.

Two Indian gaming initiatives are confronted this November 2004 by Californians. It is suggested that scope of gambling on tribal lands has no effect as it has no or little regulation from the court.
