Determinants and consequences of the private-public school choice
Article Abstract:
A model of the choice between public and private schools is presented. The variables used in the model include mean household income and the standard deviation of mean household income within a school jurisdiction. The model avoids the problem of measuring output and offers an advantage over the production function approach. Differences in the quality of public and private education do not have to be measured. Instead, the differences are determined by parents. Parameter values can be inferred without having to measure the dimensions of school quality, such as achievement. Point estimates for the parameters are not provided, but they seem to have a great impact on the cost of producing education.

Expected appreciation in urban housing markets
Article Abstract:
Using a rent-to-housing value ratio as a measure of housing value appreciation expectations, regression analyses indicate that the rational expectations model may not apply, and that capital gains are actually associated with past income, population growth and capital gains. Finally, in the mid-1970s appreciation expectations appeared to be regressive, assuming future value growth would parallel the slower growth of the 1950s and 1960s.

Regional effects of investment incentives
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the 1981 Economic Recovery Tax Act depreciation acceleration clause's impact on regional economic growth indicates that these provisions favor new over old capital. Consequently, declining high-wage areas such as the Midwest and Northeast will be adversely affected in the short run by the law relative to the Southwest. However, in the long run, it may improve the competitive position of the declining regions.
