Domes replacing enclosures in outdoor camera systems
Article Abstract:
Pelco of Clovis, CA, revealed that the use of domes for outdoor surveillance cameras is rapidly growing, a trend that could eventually eliminate the use of enclosures. According to Bill Arbuckle, position device manager for Pelco, domes are now used four to five times more than enclosures in camera installations outdoors. Arbuckle attributes the increased use of domes to various advantages they afford the users. Aside from their more lightweight and plastic package, domes do not betray where the camera is looking, unlike enclosures where the human subject can tell where the camera is pointing. Domes can also withstand cold of less than 50 degrees and can pass NEMA 4 and hose down test or IP66 ratings.

Color camera tech focuses on low light performance
Article Abstract:
Color cameras can produce better quality picture if they have better sensitivity to lower light levels, according to Tom Kochenberger, applications technologist at Philips Communication & Security Systems in Lancaster, PA. Unlike analog output cameras, digital output cameras offer superior image quality. However, to have such cameras, manufacturers also have to provide a full complement of digital-based systems components. Versatile, high quality color cameras for CCTV should be capable of accurate video in color temperatures from 2,000 degrees to 10,000 degrees Kelvin for indoor and outdoor use.
