Falling star
Article Abstract:
Los Angeles politician Gloria Molina's political career seems to have slowed down from a colorful start that saw her become the first Latino member of the powerful Los Angeles City Council. Among the reasons for this decline has been her independence which has isolated her from other constituencies and political leaders in the Latino community. She has also been criticized for her impulsiveness in supporting other Latino politicians and for her daredevil kind of politics which only served as a hindrance to the accomplishment of her goals.

Breaking up Los Angeles
Article Abstract:
Reports of a strong secessionist tendency among dissatisfied communities from Los Angeles, CA's Harbor area in the south to the San Fernando Valley in the north are exaggerated. A Times poll shows only 35% of people supporting the secession, while 47% oppose it. Breaking-up tendencies are strongest among Anglo and more affluent Angelenos. The drift is attributed to the size of the state, distance and the apathy of the state government. However, these problems can be easily solved with the cooperation of citizens and the government.
