Hospital makes a very healthy choice: integrated access
Article Abstract:
St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham, WA, chose the NT 3400 Security Management Information System from Simplex of Gardner, MA, because the system could be fully integrated into the many systems of the hospital. Aside from linking together the security and fire detection operations of the 260-bed St. Joseph Hospital, the NT 3400 has the capability to annunciate and monitor the conditions of the blood bank refrigeration, emergency power, medical gas and environmental temperature systems. Likewise, the NT 3400 improves building control operations, enhances safety and security and advances overall operational efficiency of the hospital.

Pointing a finger at guns
Article Abstract:
Smith and Wesson and Mytec Technologies have jointly developed their own version of the 'smart gun,' which can only be fired by using biometric and electronic technologies. It comes with a biometric module, which is inserted by removing the gun's magazine. The authorized user swipes his finger over the biometric module, which is then replaced by the magazine and the gun can now be fired. However, the gun will not fire when it falls into the hands of an unauthorized user such as a criminal or a child. It will not also fire when it is tampered with or taken apart.
