Peeling the layers of integration
Article Abstract:
Systems integration and site integration are the two ways of categorizing security systems integration. A typical electronic security system is made up of a close-circuit TV; alarms and alarm monitoring; access control; ID badging; perimeter or fence detection; and an intercom. On the other hand, communication technology plays a crucial role in site integration while the functions of centralized monitoring stations can be classified as after-hours monitoring, simultaneous and remote monitoring.

Open's impact on hardware
Article Abstract:
The adoption of open architecture will result in the design and manufacture of security equipment that will work interchangeably with equipment made by other manufacturers. Technology sharing is a major component of an open architecture. It is important for companies in the security systems industry to make their application program interfaces available for third party licensing. It is only through this practice that a truly open system can develop.
