Insurance and community welfare
Article Abstract:
This article evaluates the effects of federal relief programs for uninsured households in natural disaster risk areas. The author shows that providing such relief confers benefits on households in non-risk areas in the same community by increasing development in risk areas at lower cost than if they were not insured.

Should commuting expenses be tax deductible? A welfare analysis
Article Abstract:
This article examines whether commuting expenses should be tax deductible by studying a multiregional model considering worker and household mobility. Results show that deductibility is inefficient if households are immobile or cannot chose their work, and that commuting expenses should be tax deductible.

A model of welfare competition with evidence from AFDC
Article Abstract:
An adaptation of Wildasin's model of income redistribution is employed in a study of the strategic behavior of states utilizing the Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) cash support program. A representative reaction function is estimated using both cross sections and pooled data.
