The situation in Orange County draws the attention of political analysts from California to Capitol Hill because of the bad investments. The Orange County default causes grave economic problems for other localities embroiled in the bad investment scheme. Some analysts argue that a default by Orange County will drag down the municipal bond market nationally. The political outcome of the funding crisis is more speculative.

Fallout in Orange County
Article Abstract:
Orange County, CA's politics is in a major downturn. Controversial recall elections, voters' calls for setting term-limits for county supervisors and low voter turnout for Hispanic and Asian residents reflect growing resentment over politics. The county needs strong leadership and improved political will to get out of its slump.
