Article Abstract:
Governor Pete Wilson entered the US presidential race 1996 with a bang by recording significant political victories, but after a virtually unending series of disasters, he decided to put an end to his venture. The reasons for aborting his campaign at such a nascent stage were scarcity of funds and his inability to gain funds for the national campaign since the viability of a candidate is measured in terms of the amount of money that candidate has already raised. Another problem in his campaign was his sagging reputation in California as his approval ratings was 20 points behind Bill Clinton's.

Defining family values
Article Abstract:
Family values have become a crucial issue in the campaign for the 1996 election, with both Bill Clinton and Bob Dole vying with each other to get an edge. Democrats are using working-class families to attack the GOP's "Contract with America." All agree about people's unhappiness with the poor condition of the family as an institution. Of first marriages, 2/5 end in divorce. In California alone, about 1.3 million children suffer from poverty. Lack of consensus on the definition of family values is also creating hurdles in framing a concrete policy.

The greening of Dan Lungren
Article Abstract:
California's Republican Attorney General Dan Lungren has never been considered a leading environmentalist, but his recent positions concerning Proposition 65, California's anti-toxics law, has earned praise from ecologists. The most notable case involved preventing lead use in tablewear. Many consider his activist stance to be a political maneuver for publicity.
