Pete Wilson's second term
Article Abstract:
Pete Wilson, who won his second term in office as the Governor of California, proposes to complete the work he started in his first term. His re-election has placed him strongly among the probable candidates for the 1996 presidential elections. In his first term, Wilson faced problems such as recession, soaring crime rates and natural calamities, and could not fulfill all his electoral promises. However, with the economy recovering, Wilson plans to continue with reforms in welfare schemes, criminal penal codes and legal systems. The problem of immigration, state-county relationship and education are some of the issues that are likely to dominate Wilson's second term in office.

Pete Wilson and Willie Brown delivered, but was it a knockout punch for California?
Article Abstract:
The California legislature passed Gov Pete Wilson's 1993-94 budget at the urging of Speaker of the House Willie Brown, Jr. Republicans gave in on an extension of a sales-tax increase and $2.8 billion of debt moved to next year's books, while Democrats sacrificed welfare benefits, community college fees and the renter's tax credit. No one knows why Brown used his political muscle to put Wilson's budget across, but Brown may plan to run for governor in 1994.
