Protecting the portables
Article Abstract:
Most manufacturers which make lockdown devices for desktop computers are now offering safety devices to prevent portable computers or laptops from being stolen, including their content. One of these devices is a cable lock that wraps around a fixed item such as a desk. Secure-It's new X-lock locks into the security slot on the computer and can be anchored to a desk or other piece of furniture. Qualtec Security Systems also offers security plates that stick to the underside of the desk and provide a permanent anchoring point for the laptop. As for protecting data on the computer itself, LapJack, a parallel port key from Security Solutions Plus, prevents access to the hard drive. Qualtec also offers a disk drive locks made to protect computer data.

Optical, mechanical turnstiles: tools for security enhancement
Article Abstract:
Optical and mechanical turnstiles raises the effectiveness of a security system. The turnstiles, which come in more aesthetically pleasing packages with options such as marbles, stainless steel and bronze as housing, do not only monitor or control the people who goes in and out of a facility. Although recent developments in the manufacture of optical and mechanical turnstiles have removed the so-called distinction between the two, the turnstiles, whether optical or mechanical, also give the person on duty, or the guard on duty more time to respond to an alarm.
