School heterogeneity, human capital accumulation, and standards
Article Abstract:
A model was created in order to analyze the relationship between two factors in the US school system, namely, the low average productivity of high school graduates who join the labor market and the diversity in quality of schools across the nation. It is argued that wages of high school graduates are dependent on the variability in school quality, suggesting that uniform standards can do much to raise wages significantly.

The effect of educational attainment on welfare dependence: evidence from Canada
Article Abstract:
Data from Canada for 1986-1993 are used to assess links between educational attainment and length of time on welfare. The effect is more notable for women, who are also more affected by program benefits and family status, and less affected by unemployment rates than are men.
