Education standards
Article Abstract:
Education standards have always been a source of controversy as what is happening with the debate over California's new math standards where Ruben Zacharias, Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) superintendent, is arguing that LAUSD's standards are better than the state board's. In actuality, however, both parties do not have to argue as they aim for the same thing, which is quality education. Instead, both parties should address the problem of changing California's system of delivering education services for the good standards to have optimal effect.

Article Abstract:
Proposition 9 has sparked contention among groups that were once united on most other issues. The plan to rewrite California's energy deregulation law has a united organization of consumer groups pitting against organized labor, environmentalists and some civil rights groups. Proposition 9, backed by consumer groups as it would disallow companies from competing with one another for customers, is opposed by environmental groups since the 1996 electricity deregulation law includes subsidies for 'green' power, such as wind energy and solar energy.
