Taxes and the labor market participation of married couples: the earned income tax credit
Article Abstract:
The modifications to the US system of public assistance concentrate on poor working families. The earned income tax credit (EITC) evolved as the cash-transfer program for lower-income families with children. The EITC encourages employment among eligible unmarried women with children. The labor force participation response of married couples to the EITC expansions utilizing Current Population Survey data between 1984 and 1986 is examined. The results of the experimental methods concluded that the EITC expansions minimized total family labor supply of married couples.
