The effect of taxes on labour in efficiency wage models: a comment

Article Abstract:

The effects of ad valorem and specific labor taxes in a moral hazard efficiency wage model were studied by G. Pisauro. His finding that the imposition of a specific tax caused an increase in the net real wage was deemed incorrect because the specific tax lowered the wage. Some of the implications of Pisauro's findings include an increase in employment caused by a drop in effort so that effective labor input fell which means output fell when employment rose. In addition, Pisauro's findings have minimum wage law applications.

Social protection and political competition

Article Abstract:

Analogous methods were used to analyze legal social protection and market forces interactions and determine the output shares and political positions of factor owners. In many cases, the political decision process interferes with the market mechanism in the determination of factor shares. The consequences of such interference are studied under autarky and international competition, when the political decision is on the choice of a minimum wage.
