The effects of reunification on German democracy: a preliminary evaluation of a great social experiment
Article Abstract:
East Germany's inclusion within a unified German democracy stands a much good chance of success for several reasons. By submitting completely to current West German law, the East can proceed with economic and social reform. The trade unions have decided to work along with government, rather than pursue their own agenda. Finally, the West German economy could absorb the enormous underestimated costs of reunification because their national debt was small. Economic equality could be reached within five years, other aspects will take longer.

A decade of Christian democratic decline: The dilemmas of the CDU, OVP, and CDA in the 1990s
Article Abstract:
Christian Democratic parties witnessed a major loss of support in the 1990s mainly due the unpopularity of their leaders, and a series of exogenous changes impacted upon the competitive position, strategic choices and internal harmony of the three Christian Democratic parties - Christian Democratic Union ( CDU), OVP, and Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA). The intra-party manifestations of these difficulties are studied, with focus on intensified internal friction and leadership problems.

It is suggested the degree of attention green parties have attracted 'across publics and the global academic community alike far exceeds their real political impact.
