The new leaders
Article Abstract:
California State Assembly's new speaker Antonio Villraigosa commands the respect of his Chicano peers as well as his Republic adversaries. He is considered as a straightshooting liberal with the ability to deal honestly and fairly with his opponents. Instead of restricting his rise to the speakership of the Assembly, term limits paved the way for his ascendancy while restructuring its requirements to tailor fit him. Observers note that his meteoric rise to his present post came simultaneously with his personal and political growth.

The Latino Century
Article Abstract:
California is the home of almost 33% of American immigrants, dominated by Latin Americans. Most of the Latin American immigrants arrived in the state in two particular periods, 1910-1919, during the Mexican Revolution, and the mid 1970s-1980s when many people emigrated from South and Central America because of economic and political difficulties. By the end of the 21st century, with much intermarriage anticipated, race is less likely to be an issue.
