Materiel management reengineering: value creation through innovation
Article Abstract:
Hospital materiel managers can simultaneously increase their role in the health care environment and significantly reduce by reengineering the care processes of their organizational departments. An integrated approach to materiel management redesigned at all organizational levels has proven to be successful for hospital staff and administration systemwide. Inova Health System's materiel management staff utilized a team mode to integrate utilization, purchasing, vendor selection and inventory reduction across its ancillary services and three hospitals.

Standards in health care materiel management
Article Abstract:
Healthcare facilities must maintain standards to ensure that their medical equipment contributes to the efficient delivery of health services. These facilities must be able to provide clinical specialists with sufficient equipment for the examination and treatment of patients. Facilities are also compelled to inform clinicians of the unavailability of equipment even if this leads to the transfer of patients to other institutions. Lastly, healthcare facilities must see to it that their equipment remain in working condition at all times.
