Article Abstract:
The need to reduce health care costs has prompted hospital materiel managers to develop closer relationships with suppliers and outsourcing providers. Duplication in materiel procurement processes such as warehousing, distribution, printing and laundry result in ever-increasing health care costs. Among the ingredients of a successful hospital-supplier relationship are the formulation of a chain management strategy, measurement of performance and a focus on product standardization.
