RN participation in organizational decision making and improvements in resident outcomes
Article Abstract:
A study has shown that registered nurse (RN) participation in decision making (PDM) in nursing homes improved resident outcomes without increasing costs. This finding has several implications for nursing home administrators and RNs. Administrators, for instance, should develop an understanding of the components of PDM. They can also increased RN PDM using informal methods such as informal meetings or chance encounters. The study also shows that RN's can perform significant functions other than clinical processes.
