Structured problem solving can help materiel managers plan for continuous improvements in their respective organizations and avoid costly mistakes. Steps in structured problem solving include choosing an appropriate team, describing the problem fro a customer's viewpoint, implementing containment actions, identifying direct and systemic root causes, implementing permanent corrective actions, verifying the effectiveness of actions, implementing a plan to prevent recurrence, modifying system to correct systemic causes and identifying lessons learned.

Using quick response to manage the materiel flow
Article Abstract:
The trend among organizations such as corporations and hospitals has been toward improving inventory flow and cost-cutting. The Quick Response (QR) concept promises to achieve both goals for all types of organizations. However, the successful implementation of QR will depend heavily on the adoption of responsive and flexible electronic data transfer systems. In addition, effective personnel training and education will also have a significant impact on the success of QR schemes.
