Tension wanes between hospitals and MDs
Article Abstract:
Many hospital CEOs believe that the tension between hospitals and physicians is lessening. Of the CEOs polled, 44.8% stated that this tension has decreased, while 24.4% stated that it has increased. Of those who said that relations were improving, many cited the outside threat posed by health care reform as a cause for hospitals and physicians to band together. However, impending reform has caused some physicians to direct their stress at hospitals. In addition, many CEOS predicted relations will remain strained when health reform is implemented and physicians and hospitals must compete for health care spending.

No longer a luxury: more and more, hospitals recognize the necessity of offering child care benefits to employees
Article Abstract:
Many hospitals are recognizing the need to provide childcare benefits for their employees because of the difficulty of finding and retaining staff. Women comprise about 85% of the staff in most hospitals, and reliable childcare is needed for them to enter and remain in the workforce. Surveys have shown that over one third of hospitals provide childcare benefits. Many institutions with over 1,000 employees offer on-location childcare. The costs of such services vary, but the US median is $3,564 per child. Hospitals often guarantee childcare at rates comparable to community childcare.
