A 26-year-old woman with bouts of abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea
Article Abstract:
A 26-year-old woman was admitted to a hospital with abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and bloody stools. She had a history of irritable bowel syndrome. Her symptoms became worse during her period. A colonoscopy showed a mass near the cecum, which is the first part of the large intestine. This was confirmed by a CT scan of her abdomen. She also had a mass on her left ovary. Surgical exploration revealed evidence of endometriosis and an intussusception of her appendix into the cecum. Intussusception occurs when part of the intestine folds inside another part, like a telescope closing.

A 19-year-old man who had a two-year history of an increasingly more severe headache and a two-month history of high blood pressure was found to have a tumor in his chest called a paraganglioma. This tumor produces symptoms similar to a pheochromocytoma, which usually occurs in the adrenal glands.
