The Jefferson County (KY) Medical Society (JCMS) runs Louisville, KY's Healing Place, which offers a treatment program for drug and alcohol abusers. The Healing Place encompasses a homeless shelter, a nonmedical detox center, residential treatment services, a halfway house and job-training services. JCMS is involved in other service projects, including Health Promotion Schools of Excellence, a health-education program.

AMA delegates face a full slate of policy proposals
Article Abstract:
The American Medical Assn's House of Delegates, at its 1996 meeting, will consider over 180 resolutions. Summaries of resolutions that body's hearing committees have received are listed. Resolution 102, received by Reference Committee A, proposes that the AMA work with insurers, managed-care organizations, quality-assessment firms, hospitals, and medical personnel to develop suitable quality-assessment guidelines.

Managed care safeguards are being developed by the American Medical Assn (AMA). They include protection of the patient, medical ethics guidelines and antitrust issues. The revision of the Patient Protection Act of the AMA will probably include utilization review policy disclosures by managed care plans for patients and physicians and patient selection of their own physician and managed care plan.
