A campaign with street cred to target teenagers with asthma
Article Abstract:
Many teenagers who suffer from asthma find it hard to cope with their condition, as they are often teased by their contemporaries if they use an inhaler. The problem of non-compliance often arises alongside poor or inadequate inhaler technique. Teenagers also tend to rebel against people in authority, and may therefore not listen to doctors or nurses. This problem prompted a project in Sunderland, England, which brought together health professionals and teenagers to produce a rap record aimed at promoting ways of controlling asthma.

Help for teens with asthma
Article Abstract:
Many teenagers with asthma in the UK manage their condition badly, often failing to attend an asthma clinic. However, most do not allow their condition to affect their lifestyle, and tend to play down the severity of their symptoms. It is vital that health professionals see teenagers as a distinct group of asthma patients with needs which are different from those of children or adults. The 1997 National Asthma Campaign will highlight the concerns of teenagers with asthma.
