Long-term care set to be a lottery
Article Abstract:
Local health authorities in the UK are soon to take on the responsibility for administering the eligibility criteria which determine whether patients will receive NHS long-term care. Patients who are deemed not to be eligible will have to seek social services provision and be subjected to means testing. Some observers have expressed concern that the draft eligibility criteria are confusing, with nurses and carers being unable to assess who is entitled to continuing care.

The class of '99
Article Abstract:
Each year some 14,000 students in the UK begin their nurse training, with some 3,000 opting for mental health and around 2,000 choosing children's nursing. Up to 20% of nurses drop out in the first year of training, mainly because of ill health or personal matters. A group of 10 student nurses talk of their hopes for the future as they begin their three-year training program.
