A civil antitrust lawsuit has been filed by Maxicare Health Plans of the Midwest Inc against Foundation for Medical Care of Central Illinois in Springfield, IL, an independent practice association. The suit alleges that Foundation has been attempting to monopolize, restrain trade, fix prices, and other illegal behavior. Foundation asserts that Maxicare is attempting to foil competition in the area that both organizations serve.

AMA pushes Pennsylvania court for ERISA reforms
Article Abstract:
The American Medical Association filed an amicus brief before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court urging the court to hold a managed care plan liable for patient injuries allegedly caused by its refusal to pay for out-of-network care. The Pappas v. Asbel et. al v. United States Healthcare Systems of Pennsylvania case is hoped to overturn protections extended to managed care plans under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.
