U.S. physician coverage a boon for London reinsurers
Article Abstract:
Medical liability insurance has undergone many changes, and reinsurance for medical liabilities is a profitable business. Thirty of the 42 companies belonging to the Physician Insurers Association of America pay about $200 million in reinsurance premiums to London-based reinsurers. Most medical insurance companies purchase reinsurance for claims over $750,000 or $1 million. Also, medical liability coverage has expanded from physician malpractice to include errors and omissions for physicians acting as corporate officers.

Doctors must make the tough decisions to police their own
Article Abstract:
Physicians should take a stronger stance against those physicians who are not suited for the profession. Even as trainees, future physicians should be watched to determine if they are practicing acceptable attitudes and standards. Physicians have been too reluctant to make decisions against other physicians because they are their peers. Even if standards are not met physicians are more often unwilling to punish other physicians.
