A chemical treatment regimen to reduce bacterial contamination in dental waterlines
Article Abstract:
Adding low concentrations of antibacterial mouthwash to an independent water supply may reduce the risk of bacterial contamination of dental waterlines. These lines may become contaminated because many use tap water and the slow moving water in the line can encourage bacterial growth. Researchers analyzed water samples from an independent water system containing a 10% solution of Scope mouthwash and compared them to samples from seven dental offices that used tap water. After four days, 75% of the samples from the dental offices were contaminated, whereas the samples from the independent system were uncontaminated.

The effect of a dental unit waterline treatment regimen on the shear bond strength of resin-based composite. Includes CE test
Article Abstract:
Disinfecting a dental waterline with a diluted mouthwash solution does not appear to affect the bonding of resin-based composites to enamel or dentin. This is a simple and inexpensive way of disinfecting waterlines.
