A harmful procedure
Article Abstract:
Mental health nurses need to work closely with clients who deliberately harm themselves to try to understand their motivation and to help them acknowledge the underlying causes of their behaviour. Research into the use of no-self harming contracts has not been able to establish if it is a worthwhile therapy. Denying treatment will not solve the reasons why clients self harm themselves. People will only stop harming themselves when they are ready. Some observers point out clients who have harmed themselves often experience poor treatment and lack of understanding from health workers.

Out of the darkness
Article Abstract:
Provision for health care in east European countries is very limited, and mental health provision is almost non-existent. Mental patients are regarded as of no use to society and therefore their living conditions and health care is usually inadequate. Healthcare workers are paid very low wages and they are expected to work in antiquated wards with very few medical provisions. Analysts believe the way to improve the care of mentally ill patients in east Europe is to re-organize the whole care structure and reform the care profession.
