A multigene assay to predict recurrence of tamoxifen-treated, node-negative breast cancer
Article Abstract:
The results of a reverse-transcriptase-polymerase-chain-reaction assay of 21 prospectively selected genes in paraffin-embedded tumor tissue were tested to correlate with the likelihood of distant recurrence in patients with node-negative, tamoxifen-treated breast cancer. Findings reveal that the recurrence score is validated as quantifying the likelihood of distant recurrence in tamoxifen-treated patients with nose-negative, estrogen-receptor-positive breast cancer.

Letrozole after tamoxifen for breast cancer -- what is the price of success?
Article Abstract:
A study of the drug letrozole for treating breast cancer was stopped prematurely when it was found that the drug might substantially lower the risk of a cancer recurrence in women who had the tumor removed surgically. Unfortunately, it was stopped after only 2.4 years even though it was originally supposed to last five years. This means there are no data on any long-term benefits or side effects of the drug.

Trastuzumab plus adjuvant chemotherapy for operable HER2-positive breast cancer
Article Abstract:
The combined results of two trials, which compared adjuvant chemotherapy with or without concurrent trastuzumab in women with surgically removed herceptin (HER2)-positive breast cancer, are presented. Trastuzumab combined with paclitaxel after doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide improves outcomes among women with surgically removed HER2-positive breast cancer.
