Power of the union
Article Abstract:
Many nursing students in the UK have become members of a students' union as colleges of nursing merge with universities. In many cases, students' unions have been unprepared for dealing with this addition to the student population. Nursing students do not study or live in the same way as other students, and this can create communication problems for students' unions. However, nurses can derive significant benefits from becoming a member of a students' union. These include access to services such as transport and advertising.

Clinical supervision: a hornet's nest?
Article Abstract:
The UKCC is calling on the National Health Service in the UK to implement clinical supervision for nurses and health visitors. This policy is attracting considerable controversy, especially as there has been little reliable research into the effectiveness of clinical supervision. It is likely that clinical supervision will prove extremely expensive, and it is therefore very important that it can be shown to make a significant contribution to boosting levels of service and quality and cutting costs.
