The most important features to look for in a stationary bike are an adjustable seat, a speedometer, a timer and knob to vary resistance levels. Using a stationary bike three to five times a week should improve fitness, but supplementary exercises are a good idea. Several are shown.

The home can be an ideal setting for a free fitness workout. Aileen Sheron has created a 50-minute home fitness circuit that includes 25 min of cardiovascular work and 25 min of toning work. The program includes exercises in the bedroom, living room, kitchen and on the staircase.
