AMA leaders outline reform action plan
Article Abstract:
The American Medical Assn urges physicians to take action to improve the position of physicians as Pres Clinton's health care reform plan is introduced to Congress. Physicians should try to spotlight issues that concern them most, such as the possible threat to patient-physician relationships. Techniques for getting the word out are listed, such as taking along congressional representatives during a day in medical practice. Specific lobbying techniques for hospital staff as well as individual physicians are presented.

AMA puts its Medicare plan on Newt's table
Article Abstract:
Congress must compromise the needs of Medicare with pressure to balance the budget. In response to a suggestion by House Speaker Newt Gingrich, the AMA issued a proposal that addresses the various aspects of Medicare, including the system's financial security and choices offered to beneficiaries. The public needs unbiased information rather than cynical comments about proposed Medicare legislation.
