Article Abstract:

The American Medical Association (AMA) has a mission of promoting the medical profession and public health while preserving the relationship between patients and doctors. For 1997, the AMA's 150th year, the association's plans include the launch of an accreditation program for individual doctor practices, establishment of an Ethics Institute, reform of Medicaid and Medicare, support of medical savings accounts and advocacy for regulatory changes.

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Assn has created a new agenda for 1997 and is celebrating its 150th anniversary. The agenda, Project New Focus, emphasizes patient protection efforts, including support of federal legislation which would ban gag clauses. Other aspects of the agenda include pushes for reform of graduate medical education programs, Medicare reform, public health initiatives like anti-smoking efforts and opposition to physician-assisted suicide.

AMA, GTE plan data system for MDs

Article Abstract:

A data base is being developed by a joint project by the AMA and GTE. The AMA will supply the medical and health information data and GTE will supply the computer technology. The latest information will be brought to physicians through the use of computer terminals.
