Long-term results of initial therapy with abacavir and lamivudine combined with efavirenz, amprenavir/ritanovir, or stavudine
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to compare alternative class-sparing antiretroviral regimens in treatment of naive subjects by using the open label, multicenter, randomized trial. It was seen that secondary analyses favored the nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTI) regiment over the protease inhibitor and NRTI regimens and the results were excellent in 96-weeks.

Less lipoatrophy and better lipid profile with abacavir as compared to stavudine
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to assess lipoatrophy, other toxicities, and efficacy associated with abacavir as compared with stavudine in HIV-infected antiretroviral-native patients. The findings suggest that abacavir has a substantially less deleterious effect on body fat distribution (particularly peripheral fat) and lipid metabolism than stavudine.
