Achieving gingival esthetics
Article Abstract:
Several procedures are described and illustrated showing dentists how to correct some of the gum abnormalities experienced by patients who have had surgery for periodontal disease. These problems include excessive gum tissue, an uneven gumline, and exposed tooth roots. Crown lengthening, papillary regeneration, and root coverage can be used to correct these problems.

The etiology and prevalence of gingival recession
Article Abstract:
There may be many causes of receding gums, including malpositioned teeth, periodontal disease, tobacco chewing, and vigorous tooth brushing. More than half of all Americans have some degree of gum recession, which increases with age. A receding can expose the roots of teeth, where cavities can easily develop.

Noncarious cervical lesions and abfractions: a re-evaluation
Article Abstract:
Abfraction may not be directly responsible for tooth damage that is not caused by dental cavities. Abfraction was the name given to the loss of tooth structure due to mechanical forces in the mouth during chewing. According to this theory, the mechanical stress of chewing causes tooth enamel to break.
