Adult screening for hearing
Article Abstract:
The following information can help guide nurse practitioners in screening older adults for hearing loss. Ask about hearing loss. Consider a questionnaire to screen for communication problems. Test in a quiet environment using frequencies within speech range. Testing may be done at 25 dB alone or include 40dB. The whispered voice and finger rub are not sufficient tests. Patients with hearing loss should be referred to a specialist. Monitor follow-up management for all referred patients.

Adult blood pressure screening
Article Abstract:
Most major authorities recommend measuring blood pressure in adults every one to two years. A mercury sphygmomanometer should be used if possible. The readings are classified into categories of normal, high normal, and four stages of hypertension: mild, moderate, severe, and very severe. The technique for taking blood pressure, recommended follow-up, and life-style changes for controlling hypertension are discussed.
