Aetna's bid for New York Life's health unit raises concern

Concerns have been raised about the purchase of the New York Life's health insurance business by Aetna US Healthcare by both credit rating services and physicians. There will be a gain of 2.2 mil enrollees to 15.9 mil for Aetna if the merger is approved by federal and state regulators. Standard and Poor's Corp and A.M. Best have placed Aetna on CreditWatch as a response to concerns on the acquisition's financing.

Texas slaps $800,000 penalty on Harris Methodist health plan: doctors complained incentives encourages withholding care
Article Abstract:
The Texas Insurance Dept fined Harris Methodist Texas Health Plan for violating state insurance regulations prohibiting health insurers from providing financial incentives to physicians for withholding necessary medical care. Regulators say the plan penalizes group practices that exceed targets for prescription drug costs and issues bonuses for practices that do not exceed the target.
