The World Health Organization supports the decentralization of health care in war-ravaged Afghanistan. Goals include improving health services and training, expanding emergency services and controlling communicable diseases. A ceasefire for a child immunization campaign occurred in 1994-95.

Humanitarian assistance in Haiti
Article Abstract:
The World Health Organization (WHO) established an emergency medical network in Haiti in 1990 and coordinated a program to maintain public health after sanctions were imposed. WHO became responsible for distributing humanitarian aid when the embargo was extended.

Cambodia heals its wounds

The health infrastructure of Cambodia was devastated by the two decades of fighting that ended in 1991. The World Health Agency joined other agencies in a long-term program to coordinate restoration of the health sector.
